Retail gourmet and prepared foods specialist Dean & Deluca has closed three stores in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is closing another in Leawood, Kansas, according to media reports.

That would leave the chain with just eight U.S. stores.

All three Dean & Delucas in Charlotte — Phillips Place, Stonecrest at Piper Glen and South Tryon — have closed, according to a story in the Charlotte Observer.

The Dean & Deluca in Leawood will close May 21, according to a story in the Kansas City Star.

The company said in a statement that it would focus on its New York City stores and its digital business, according to the Star story.

Dean & Deluca, founded in 1977 in New York, has four stores in New York, two in Hawaii and one each in Washington, D.C., and California. The company also has stores in nine Asian countries.
