Salads, berries and chicken topped the list of fresh organic products purchased in 2017.

Organic packaged salad sales totaled about $898 million last year, according to Nielsen Co. LLC’s Tops of 2017: Fresh Organic report, which found that “for top performing retailers, organic contribution to the total fresh department continues to grow.” Berries were second with $565 million in sales, and chicken was third with $313 million.

“As consumers increasingly want to know where their food is coming from and what’s being added to it, many are gravitating toward organic products as they seek healthy and clean options in food, and the fresh area of the store is a key destination for organic foods,” according to the report.
