Bakery and grocery sales will continue to drive huge growth in gluten-free products, according to a new study.

By 2025, global gluten-free sales could total $33 billion, according to the study, by Dublin-based Research and Markets.

Bakery sales are expected to lead the way, with compound annual growth of 10.5 percent forecasted, due mainly to continued strong demand for gluten-free bread in the U.S., France and other countries. Higher demand for gluten-free pasta is expected to drive sales in Italy, Germany and other countries.

Rising incidences of celiac disease, diabetes and obesity and the perception among consumers that gluten-free products are good for digestion and weight loss will drive future growth in the category.

Retail grocery sales are expected to account for 70% of all distribution of gluten-free products, according to the report.
